A simple privacy overview for IdeaPi and our exporter extension
We want privacy expectations to be easy to understand. This page explains, in plain language, how IdeaPi handles information across our website, workspace app, public shared pages, and the AI Conversation Exporter browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome.
Website and app
Covers account creation, workspace usage, uploads, shared links, and public pages on ideapi.ai.
Browser extension
Covers the exporter extension used on supported AI chat websites and listed in browser extension stores.
Private by default
Shared content remains private unless a user intentionally creates and publishes a share link.
1. What this page covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the IdeaPi website, logged-in workspaces, public shared pages, and the AI Conversation Exporter browser extensions used to export supported AI conversations.
It is also designed to support browser extension store disclosure requirements without forcing you to read a dense legal document first.
2. What information we may handle
- Account details such as name, email address, and authentication data when you create or use an IdeaPi account
- Workspace content that you upload, generate, review, or share inside IdeaPi
- Share-link metadata such as visibility, expiry, password-protection state, and access events
- Extension settings and supported page content needed to perform exporter actions
- Basic operational data needed for security, debugging, fraud prevention, and service reliability
3. How privacy works on the website and app
When you use IdeaPi on the web, we may handle information needed to provide workspace features such as account access, uploads, exported pages, assets, governance review, and controlled sharing.
If you intentionally upload content or sync exported conversations into IdeaPi, that content may be stored, processed, enriched, reviewed, and shared according to your workspace settings.
Public sharing is optional. Content is not made public unless a user intentionally creates and activates a share link.
4. How privacy works in the browser extension
The exporter extension is designed to read supported AI conversation pages only when needed to generate Markdown exports or related structured output.
In extension-only flows, exported content may remain local to the browser depending on the feature used. If future or optional flows send content into an IdeaPi workspace, that upload happens only when the user initiates it.
We do not use extension-accessed content for advertising, and we do not sell that content to data brokers.
5. Shared pages and protected access
IdeaPi supports private, public, and password-protected shared pages. Share links may also include expiry settings and version visibility controls.
When a public or protected page is accessed, we may process limited access data such as link usage, expiry validation, password validation, and view counts to operate the feature securely.
6. Why we use information
- To provide export, upload, governance, and sharing functionality
- To maintain account access, security, and abuse prevention
- To store user preferences and workspace configuration
- To improve reliability, debugging, and product operations
7. When information may be shared
We do not sell personal information or conversation content for advertising purposes.
We may work with infrastructure or service providers where reasonably necessary to operate the website, extension-related workflows, hosting, authentication, or product functionality.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect users, or to defend the security and integrity of the service.
8. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to limit access, protect stored information, and keep permissions aligned with the actual feature set.
We aim to retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the relevant product function, security, compliance, dispute resolution, or legitimate business operation.
9. Your choices
- You can choose whether to install or use the browser extension
- You can choose whether to upload exported content into IdeaPi
- You can delete or revoke shared links you create
- You can contact us regarding privacy questions or account-related requests
10. Updates and contact
As the product evolves, we may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes affecting the website, workspaces, shared pages, or the browser extension.
If you have privacy questions, we’d be happy to help at [email protected].
