What happens when you sync a conversation to ideapi.ai
Sync turns a useful AI conversation into a workspace page inside ideapi.ai. It is designed to be explicit and user-controlled, so nothing is sent just because you open the extension or sign in.
Firefox is prioritized for Android and Firefox users. Chrome remains available for desktop installs.
The short version
- Nothing is sent when you open the extension
You can open the popup, review the conversation, and inspect the content before deciding to do anything else.
- Nothing is sent when you sign in
Signing in only connects your ideapi.ai account so the sync action is available when you choose to use it.
- Your conversation is only sent when you click 'Sync to ideapi.ai'
Sync is an explicit action. The extension does not auto-sync a conversation just because you visited a supported AI site.
- You can sanitize before syncing
The extension includes a sanitize step so you can remove or mask personal details before sending the conversation to ideapi.ai.

A cleaner knowledge workflow
Instead of losing useful output inside a chat thread, you can keep valuable prompts, answers, and reasoning in a reusable place.
Optional workflow processing
When a workflow is available, ideapi.ai can process the synced content for the purpose you selected.
What gets sent when you sync
- The current conversation messages you chose to sync
- The sanitized markdown prepared in the extension
- Basic metadata such as platform, title, export time, and message count
- Your selected workflow, if you picked one before syncing
This happens only after you press Sync to ideapi.ai in the extension.
What does not happen automatically
- Opening ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or DeepSeek does not sync anything to ideapi.ai.
- Opening the browser extension does not sync anything to ideapi.ai.
- Signing in does not upload the current conversation by itself.
- Future syncs still happen only when you trigger them.
A simple step-by-step flow
The extension is designed so the user stays in control at each step instead of feeling like sync might happen in the background.
1. Open the extension
Review the current conversation in the popup without sending it anywhere.
2. Sanitize if needed
Remove or mask details before the conversation ever leaves the browser.
3. Sign in to connect ideapi.ai
Signing in prepares the sync action. It does not upload the conversation by itself.
4. Click Sync when you are ready
That explicit click is the moment the selected conversation is sent and turned into a workspace page.
